The Complete Guide to Mushroom Tincture Dosage: Lion's Mane & Reishi

A practical, science-backed guide to dosing dual-extracted Lion's Mane and Reishi tinctures — how much to take, when to take them, and how to build a quiet daily ritual around the dropper.

How much Lion's Mane should you take?

A dual-extracted Lion's Mane (Hericium erinaceus) tincture is concentrated: most published studies of Lion's Mane extract for cognition use a daily equivalent in the range of 500 mg to 3 g of the fruiting-body extract. For our tincture — one full dropper is roughly 1 ml — a typical starting dose is 1 ml (about 30 drops) once a day, working up to 2 ml daily if you want a stronger effect.

Take it in the morning, ideally on an empty stomach with a little warm water, coffee or tea. Lion's Mane is not stimulating like caffeine — it supports background clarity and nerve-growth factor (NGF) pathways rather than jolting your nervous system.

How much Reishi should you take?

Reishi (Ganoderma lucidum) is traditionally used in the evening for its calming, sleep-supporting effects. Start with 1 ml (about 30 drops) in the hour before bed. If you're using Reishi mainly for stress and immunity rather than sleep, a smaller 0.5 ml in the late afternoon works well.

You can hold the drops under the tongue for 30 seconds before swallowing — this improves absorption of the alcohol-soluble triterpenes. If the taste is too bitter, drop it straight into warm water, herbal tea, or a cup of hot cacao.

A simple daily schedule

  • Morning (7–10 am): 1 ml Lion's Mane in warm water or coffee.
  • Evening (8–10 pm): 1 ml Reishi in tea or hot water, 30–60 minutes before bed.
  • Optional midday top-up: another 0.5–1 ml Lion's Mane before a demanding block of work.

How long before you feel it?

Some people notice sharper focus from Lion's Mane within the first week. The deeper effects — memory support, calmer stress response, improved sleep — build over 4 to 8 weeks of daily use. Functional mushrooms reward consistency far more than dose size. It is better to take 1 ml every day for two months than 3 ml for a week and then stop.

Can you take both at the same time?

Yes. Lion's Mane and Reishi are complementary: one supports clarity and focus during the day, the other supports calm and recovery at night. Most of the Pure Mycelium circle takes both, split across morning and evening. There is no known interaction between the two mushrooms.

Safety and who should be careful

Lion's Mane and Reishi have long safety records in traditional and modern use. That said, Reishi can mildly thin the blood, so if you take anticoagulants or are preparing for surgery, speak to your doctor first. Pregnant or breastfeeding women, and anyone on immunosuppressants, should also check with a clinician before starting.

Our tinctures use food-grade organic cane alcohol as the extraction solvent. If you're avoiding alcohol entirely, drop the dose into just-boiled water and wait 60 seconds before drinking — most of the alcohol will evaporate.

Ready to build the ritual?

Both tinctures live in the shop. Each 50 ml bottle is a roughly 30-day supply at the recommended daily dose.
